Between the Lies

Hello my little hardcore darlings! Your mission for today is to go download the new EP, Between the Lies, by Memphis May Fire. You will love it. MMF is genius! If you're scratching your head over why an established band like MMF would be releasing an EP right now, trust me, there's a good reason! [I know the reason, but I'm unsure as to whether I can share or not] It will all make sense in due time. ;)

In any case, go check out two songs from Between the Lies on MMF's Myspace:

Woe, Is Me

Here we have yet another one of my dual-purposed blogs. My husband recently did the promo vid for an ah-mazing band called Woe, Is Me. If you haven't picked up their album, Number[s], yet, what are you waiting for? They are about as genius as a band can get.

A spooky playlist

I'll admit, I'm one of those nerds who starts planning her Halloween around October 1. I've got a stack of scary movies next to my TV just waiting for me to watch them and I might possibly have a box full of wings, masks, and Halloween makeup sitting in my closet. I'm not ashamed to admit it!

My first order of business this month was to create my spooky playlist. Since I'm avoiding music piracy (but dressing as a pirate is always on the list of possbilities) and I've resigned myself to using what's already in my on my iTunes, I might be stretching it a bit, but here's a taste of what I've got:

Motionless in White's new album, Creatures, is literally perfect for Halloween. Seriously, these guys LOVE the holiday. If you're looking for party music for All Hallow's Eve, you need to get this right now.

Here we have another Fearless band, The Word Alive. Just the fact that their album is titled Deceiver makes it perfect for the biggest costume blowout of the year. I'm contemplating dressing up as an Egyptian and calling "The Hounds of Anubis" my theme song.

City of Evil by Avenged Sevenfold will forever be on my Halloween playlist. Even when I'm an old lady. I've probably overplayed "Beast and the Harlot" and "Bat Country," but they still have serious Halloween cred. Their newest single, "Nightmare," also ranks pretty high up there on my best-Halloween-party-music-ever list.

Demon Hunter's The Triptych makes me think of gothic ballerinas. I'm on a different wavelength than the rest of the population, I know. The first two songs meld together in a way that just begs for some intrepid troupe of ballerinas to do an awesome Halloween revue. This album is amazing.

You know I'm right about this one. Don't judge me. If you haven't sang "Masquerade" to yourself on Halloween, then you suck at life.

IAMMEDIC - The Tale of Abigale Withers

Okay, so this post might possibly be dual-purposed. First of all, you need to check out IAMMEDIC's EP, which came out today! Second of all, this trailer was designed by my husband, which gives me bragging rights. :-)

Check out IAMMEDIC. They are awesome. Their music will make you dance.

The Word Alive

If you haven't listened to Deceiver by The Word Alive yet, do it now!

TWA just got through touring with Bleeding Through and For Today, and next they'll be crossing the U.S. with Underoath and A Day to Remember. When I heard that I might possibly have squealed like a little girl. Just maybe.

Telle, the lead singer of The Word Alive and former guitarist for Greeley Estates, is a pretty awesome guy. Onstage, he's a brilliant and charismatic performer. Offstage, he's softspoken, intelligent, and great at giving time to his fans. Check him out on tumblr!

We have a feature on The Word Alive coming soon on scene[essence]! In the meantime, be sure to check out their tour dates!

Must be good jeans

As Hayley Williams once said, the best concert jeans are the ones that don’t show booty cleavage. Maybe that’s just a problem us girls face, but comfy-yet-awesome jeans to wear to concerts are hard to come by for guys and gals.

I may just be a hardcore nerd to most, but during my college years I used to moonlight as a “jeans specialist” at the Buckle, meaning I turned into the ultimate jeans snob. Here are some of my picks for best concert wear!

Guys:
MEK - These are my all-time favorite jean. Their black jeans look great with everything! When trying on MEKs, be sure to try a size up and a size down from what you normally wear. If you prefer a slim fit, a size down will most likely be what you want. Be prepared to shell out $125 on up for these, but they'll last longer than your cheap jeans, so it all evens out.
Big Star Vintage - These are the kind of jeans that feel lived-in from the start, which is a plus for anyone who hates going to a concert in jeans you can't mosh in! They're also a sister company of True Religion, so you know you're getting long-lasting jeans, but without hurting your account as much. If you like a super slim fit, BSV Orions are the best you could possibly buy.
Archaic - When I see a guy wearing Archaic jeans I automatically tag him as someone with good taste. They're sexy and they're comfortable. This brand is a branch of Affliction, but with a cheaper price tag.

Gals:
MEK - And we're back to my favorite jean brand! This particular jean, the Hong Kong, is stretchy and has a slight bootcut. No booty crack here, btw, which is good since the pockets will draw attention to that region!
Forever 21 - My favorite skinnies come from Forever 21. They're cheap, they're stretchy, and they look great with my boots. My favorites right now are the Distressed Signature Skinny Jeans. You neeeeeeed these! (You also need a pair of black, knee-high biker boots, but that's another story)

Miss Me - This brand is a classic. They're reasonably priced AND they have the coolest pockets ever. I love that when I dance around at concerts in these jeans, they move with me instead of just falling down like some of my others do. Love them!
